What is the difference between Mold and Mildew?

Mildew refers to certain kinds of mold’s or funguses that are all part of the same general mold species. The term mildew is sometimes used generically to refer to mold growth, usually on a flat surface like bathroom tile surfaces or other flat areas where there is a high moisture environment.

Mold’s include all species of microscopic fungi that grow in the form of multicellular filaments, called hyphae.  Mold’s can thrive on any organic matter, including clothing, leather, paper, and the ceilings, walls and floors of homes with moisture management problems. Mildew often lives on shower walls, windowsills, and other places where moisture levels are high.

There are many species of molds. In unaired places, such as basements, they can produce a strong musty odour.

It is very important the any mold in your home be addressed quickly. Preventing Mildew / Mold in your Bathroom

If you’re like me I  enjoy a hot, steam shower but that can lead to mold and mildew developing. Make sure to keep the bathroom fan or vent on when showering and always open doors and windows after showering. Keep your fan on for at least 30 minutes after showering

Also using a daily shower spray at the end of your shower is a great way to prevent mold and mildew! It’s easy to use, just spray your shower down around you and then exit your shower. Please make sure the spray is compatible with your wall and floor materials. This will help to keep your shower clean and smelling fresh.
