Mold and Moisture, what is the relationship?
Mold and Moisture
We are asked all the time, mold and moisture, what is the relationship? Is one possible without the other?
Well, for starters, one is impossible without the other. That is, without moisture, mold will not initiate nor will it grow in the presence of warmth.
So, controlling moisture is the key…
Addressing moisture in your home
Here is a list of the key areas we look for when inspecting a home specifically for moisture entry;
- BasementsThe number one area in your home where we see water coming in the most. Whether its a foundation crack or foundation failure, or a concrete slab that is allowing water to enter your home or business.
Attic
The second most likely place for moisture to enter into your home. We usually see water coming in from older roof systems that may have lost a few shingles over the years due to age or           damage, or in the form of water vapour from insufficient insulation / blocked soffit vents or from a non-insulated exhaust vent travelling through an attic on the way to an exterior opening.
And because mold is so small, (microns in fact), this mold will travel through light switches / junction boxes and power outlets.
